Re: Identity

My husband and I now ride bikes on Sunday morning - nature is our new sanctuary, the song of birds our sermon. We enjoy farmer markets, theater, live music, finding new restaurants, and have started cooking together - so much extra time to now spend meaningful time with one another. Few people ask u...

Re: General Konference Predictions

There will be hints that the end-of-days is soon at hand (as there always is) with praise to those who have endured through these last fiery years well. There will be calls for the inactive to come back to church with more "before it is too late" rhetoric. Also talks on self-reliance (ask not what y...

Re: Is Faith Relative?

It is not supposed to be faith in any church, only faith in God. I'm happy to have an optimist outlook on life, to forgive people, work for the best - I think that is all "faith in God" means - just do what you are able to do, be happy, and put the rest in God's hands.

Re: Jeffrey Holland is a terrible human being so it's fitting he gave this talk at BYU

.... Christ himself taught the two most important commandments were to love God and love your neighbor... Christ himself did not record getting married, and defined family very differently from the church - behold my mother and my brethren. His real name was feminine - Jehovah - masculine hierarchi...

Re: When else has the prophet been deceived?

Essentially they said they do sustain him but think that God is purposely "trying his people" by telling the prophet to tell us to do something we shouldn't obey, and that is the test. I can't stop thinking about this. It's something we are hearing more and more lately, especially with alt-righters...

Re: When else has the prophet been deceived?

Fallibility causes the whole church structure to collapse. The pope claims to be infallible, but no Catholic believes it. The LDS prophet does not claim to be infallible, but no Mormon believes it. The best thing about biblical Christianity is repentance/atonement the example of the apostles totall...

Re: Jeffrey Holland is a terrible human being so it's fitting he gave this talk at BYU

One of my kids - abused by bishopric member now in jail - has let me know they are trans. I am happy for them, was afraid they would never have their own family because of the abuse, but now they have found a way to escape physical contact that is triggering and also still have a family. There are ...

Re: Mormon church pays $250 million in Boy Scout settlement

They guy who abused my kids is in jail, we never recieved one cent and never will. We are lucky he is in jail *without probation under Jessica's law). Most never receive anything, most abusers are never brought to justice. No one is "called by God" No one has authority over another. When everyone su...

1) could any kind person be happy if they were separated from others? 2) responsibility of the student vs. the teacher. Low student success rates = bad plan = incompetent God. My new understanding of "heaven" Everything dies, decomposes, atoms and energy are all mixed together then start cycle again...

Re: Five Months Down. 54 To Go.

Here's one idea - form a support group for the less/non active. :) you know, to boost activity rates. Create a new 2nd hr meeting group for everyone who wants to discuss "problems with the church". Invite all disgruntled burned out members - then sit back, let the "support" meeting blow up, allow ev...

Re: Is it time to update the “bubble of threats” chart?

When did the $100 billion bomb drop in the papers? Church finance needs to be in there. Abuse, Sam Young. Racism - the police/racism riots had a few people researching racism in the church. How about competitors? Buddhism, unitarians, a few groups who have better missionaries, and better zoom church...

I have a little clipping on my wall about The Loop and The Spiral. You can stay in the loop and be comfortable and not upset others who don't want to see you grow beyond their level, or you can be in The Spiral and allow your intuition to expand your orbit so that you experience new realms beyond t...

Re: What are you drinking right now?

Going out with work colleagues on Friday, still deciding if I want to drink with them or not. I do have alcoholics in my family, and I try to stay healthy... funny thing, all the Mormons know I'm out, but people from work do not know, and I'm not sure I'm ready for that conversation with them.

But the one heeded them not, and taking a breath did let go, and at once was tumbled and smashed by the current across the rocks. Yet in time, as the creature refused to cling again , the current lifted him free from the bottom, and he was bruised and hurt no more . Interesting on a number of level...

Re: Two kinds of minds?

It's more than just a faith crisis, it's a "personal identity crisis". It means pain, anger, sadness, shame, loss of face, loss of community, loss of family possibly. Maybe even loss of employment. ... Once there lived a village of creatures along the bottom of a great crystal river. The current of...
