Re: Fight The New Drug

My hope in sharing this message is to curb the influence of pornography Purity modesty culture creates embarrassment and unhealthy infatuation with the "forbidden". In my experience, my children ended up being abused by a high-ranking brother in the church - their confession letter after they were ...

Re: Mormons and Muslims

I took a class at BYU called History of the Medieval and Modern Near East. It covered the area of the world we now associate with Islam starting with Mohammed and going into the present day. One of the assignments was a research paper. We all chose our topics and wrote up a rough draft. A woman in ...

Mormons and Muslims

Wrote a book. Muslims believe that the Quran was orally revealed by God to the prophet, Muhammad, through the archangel Gabriel... The first vision... Muhammad's "first revelation" was an event described in Islamic tradition as taking place in AD 610, during which the Islamic prophet, Muhammad was v...

Re: “Carry Overs” into the next life?

From civil rights of the 60's to now - time tells who was on the *correct* side of history. Even as a child, I could tell that Bull Connor was on the wrong side of history when he ordered fire hoses and attack dogs to be used against peaceful civil rights marchers. Some items are blatantly wrong, s...

Re: Elder Gong: “Please don’t post that photo…”

I'm so glad you made it. You did what you needed to do. Thanks for understanding. Not only am I neck deep in this stuff at home, I'm neck deep in it at work. All our pro-devs this semester will be mental health, including suicide prevention training. Last semester was inclusion training. I've sat t...

Re: Elder Gong: “Please don’t post that photo…”

My child was brave enough to attend church one last time with their parter, dressed in their comfortable gender identity (button up white shirt, tie, and nice slacks - the same costume so many others wear without fuss.) Only one person greeted them, and that was because they mistook them for my son....

For the full story: https://medium.com/@thatonegaygong/state-of-the-matt-2021-6e0d278e8d01 So, as a public figure, Elder Gong has an image he needs to maintain. Family should always come before anything else. I have LGBTQ in my family too, as well as one of my kids. They come first. You are either c...

Re: “Carry Overs” into the next life?

Interesting. I was taught the opposite. Those born with handicaps or a lesser station have already proven their worth, and are sent to test the rest of us. Those born with privilege must prove themselves worthy of a celestial reward. The exceptions are if someone's calling and election is made sure...

Re: Did anyone else hear voices?

Early in my faith transition, my wife agreed to listen to all of the critical arguments regarding church history etc. This seemed quite stressful to me and I was thinking about whether to go through with it. Then I heard a voice say, "It's the spirit that matters most". I took this as an answer fro...

Re: Sealed to the church by shame

I thought that she was too perfectionistic (deeply entrenched in the Mormon purity culture). I believe that she is still single. Perhaps she will grow up to be another Wendy Nelson - live her life single working as a marriage and family therapist telling everyone else how to have a perfect family w...

Re: If I were an atheist

If there is a God, They would need to be perfectly just and loving, the perfect teacher to pull everyone together in the end - so no worries there. Unless he really is the twisted, vengeful mofo of the Bible. Most religions like to believe in the kind, loving, understanding God. The only way they c...

Re: Sealed to the church by shame

I did not convert due to shame, I joined because I thought it was a safe group of people. I was wrong. Kids were abused. Grooming vs. kind - difficult to see the difference when desperate for someone to be kind and supportive. I support myself now. For those with problems - real problems - the shame...

I confess that I am scared to move on.
Good to have someone stationed behind enemy lines - never know when someone else over there will need a friendly voice of reason. Fight the good fight.

Re: Konfession Time!

This is great. ok, my turn. I work on Sundays, and every other day. After 40 hrs, it is 'volunteer' work though, so I can justify it as charity to poor engineering students. I drink coffee - am not proficient enough to order anything fancy, but I suppose black with nothing in it is probably the most...

Re: If I were an atheist

I've made peace with any afterlife scenario. The atheist scenario - conservation of mass and energy - it would all just get mixed back together in the end. It is the ultimate union/connection, everything and everyone mixed together in the end, life pulled from the giant mixing bowl - literally unite...

sorry if that was not clear, I was being sarcastic - No, I'm sorry! I totally missed that. I was trying to figure out a way of saying kindly that you must be a taco shy of a full platter.... :) I should not have made light of it, so many horror stories from WW2, crazy what war does to people...

Re: “Carry Overs” into the next life?

If any adverse mentality that we have will carry over to the afterlife, what happens when the adverse mentality is a result of mortal imperfections? Example, a person live in chronic pain due to a genetic defect, say multiple sclerosis. This has resulted in an dependence on opioid painkillers to ge...

Re: “Carry Overs” into the next life?

after all, Hitler was totally into genealogy, fasting, followed the word of wisdom, ran great scouting program for the Mormon kids, watched out for the Mormon church through ww2 - everyone has their good side ;) 1. Hitler was "into genealogy" because he was trying to create a pure Aryan race. No Je...

Some good reading on the end - Matthew 24: https://www.blueletterbible.org/kjv/mat/24/1/s_953001 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall...
